Man-Raze
'Surreal'
CD/DVD Reviews
Review by: Brian Johnson for ROCK N ROLL UNIVERSE .COM
For some time fans of Def Leppard's guitarist Phil Collen wished he would release some solo material. Well, their request was granted, however, Collen is not alone in his endeavors. Bass player Simon Laffy, Phil's band mate from Girl and Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook have combined their talents with Phil to form Man-Raze, a contemporary ensemble with a refreshing and stimulating new sound.

Their debut album called 'Surreal' (also the title of their self-created record label), holds an eclectic range of compositions, derived inspiration from such established bands as the Police and Nirvana which resonates so deliciously clear. Collen is at the helm, providing lead vocals, and his range is myriad from a dusky tone to fervent intensity.

Each song is ambitious and unique. "Runnin' Me Up" for example is a playful reggae/rock hybrid, and then you hear "Spinning Out" which is dark and edgy. My favorite track is "Low", a ballad with passionate lyrics that evoke such emotion, you really feel for the song.

'Surreal' is expected to be released on June 3rd, 2008. For me, this collaboration is a dream that came true, and I highly recommend it for music lovers everywhere.

Turn it Up, indeed!!
