American Dog
Hard
CD/DVD Reviews
Review by Frank for Rock N Roll Universe
Do you know what I like about a band like American Dog? These guys I believe DO NOT know how to put out a weak album. Their latest offering 'Hard' does not contain a clunker in the bunch. That’s quite a feat in this day and age one hit wonder filled musical landscape. I didn’t think these guys could top their fantastic 2005 release 'Scars-n-Bars' but they did. Hard is just that, HARD, as in serious 100% kick ass rock and roll!

The album begins with the instrumental "Bock" and is followed by the ice pick in forehead crunch of "No Pity". Okay, two songs in we’re kicking ass. Then comes the Hannon patented humor of "Sometimes You Eat The Pussy". Once again another kick butt song with very funny lyrics. "Another Day In Paradise" and "Hypnotized" follow up next and we stay on the same kick butt path. Next up is "Long Time Comin’". The first two minutes of the song is a really cool acoustic instrumental. So now you think okay here’s the let down. Oh no! Two minutes in, here comes a slamming riff by Mr. Steve Theado. Once again I ask, "Why is this man not on the front cover of a guitar magazine?". "Beatin, Broken,Etc." is up next and begins with the sound of a beer can being opened up. How do I know it’s a beer can? This is American Dog! And these boys love their beer! Once again we're served up another kick ass affair." Rock-N-Roll Dog" is up next and features more of Hannon’s witty lyrics. "Spell On Me" is another great example of why this album is called 'Hard'. "Spell On Me" starts with a thumping bass riff and features some hot, hot licks by Steve Theado. Guitar feed back, and another beer can being opened up starts out "Bloodsucker". The Motörhead influence is all over that tune! Usually most bands end their albums with the weakest track on the album, but not these guys. "Magnificent Bastard" ends 'Hard' with a very loud BANG!! Not only is it my favorite song on the album it has to be easily my all time favorite tune by American Dog. And with such a catalog of great tunes that’s no easy task.

'Hard' is a must for any fan of great hard rock music. Right now it sits as my favorite release so far of 2007. And I don’t see any bands coming out with an album that will top it! If you have never heard this band before, 'Hard' is a good place to hear how it done...DOGGY STYLE. http://www.americandog.us/
