Review by Bucky for Rock N Roll Universe
Upon my first listen to Damone’s latest release ‘Out Here All Night’ on Island Records I can probably name about 25 bands that have influenced Damone’s sound. The best example I can give would be mixing Poison, Iron Maiden, Avril Lavigne, Motley Crue, The GoGo’s, Pat Benetar, AC/DC, Joan Jett and the Tubes together to give you a tremendous blend of Rock & Roll. Damone, led by bassist Vazquez & the sweet sounding vocals of lead singer/guitarist Noelle throw you back to the hard rocking sounds of the 80’s while giving it a millennium twist. Lead Guitarist Mike W’s style & sound would fit right at home on the Crue’s first 2 records while drummer Dustin Hengst pounds out the rockin’ rythyms to the styles drummer Thommy Price (Scandal,Billy Idol,Joan Jett).
The album kicks off with an anthem “Now Is the Time”which blends ripping guitar rythyms against 80’s pop choruses that’ll stick in your brain. The next tune “Out Here All Night” is the first single off the CD. It begins with an 80’s pop drum beat which almost reminds me of “Don’t Lose My Number” by Phil Collins, but the comparison ends about 4 seconds into the song as it rips into an onslaught Motley Crue meets Iron Maiden rhythm. This song has everything : heavy riffs, pounding rhythms and a chorus that will hook you in. ”What We Came Here For” totally kicks ass and is my favorite track on the CD.The tune kicks out a beat that crosses the Crue and the Blackhearts, and adds a lead guitar attack reminiscent of Adrian Smith & Dave Murray while Noelle screams out in her Jett style vocal “…I’m not someone you ignore…”.
Speaking of Iron Maiden the band pulls off a cool cover of “Wasted Years” from Maiden’s ‘Somewhere In Time” album. Noelle pours everything into her vocals on the heartfelt “When You Live”which takes the band almost to a power ballad level.”Outta My Way” relives Poison in their prime as it rocks similar to “Nothing But a Good Time” with more flash & balls.
The band sounds hungry throughout the entire CD & definitely offers up a healthy menu of rock & roll so if you’re a fan of 80’s metal/hard rock “Now Is the Time” to check this album & band out.
