Bob Seger
Face the Promise
CD/DVD Reviews
Review by Bucky for Rock N Roll Universe
Bob Seger stays true to his form with a mix of straight ahead rockers & heartfelt ballads on his latest release’Face the Promise’as he returns with his first studio album since 1995’s “It’s a Mystery”.Kid Rock & Patty Loveless both share their vocal talents with Seger as each perform a duet with the veteran snger/songwriter.

The album kicks off with a rocker in the same vein as “Sunspot Baby”called”Wreck This Heart”which has a sound reminiscent of John Cougar Mellencamp meets mid 90’s Rolling Stones.”Wait For Me” is the inspirational ballad that one would expect on a Seger album. The title track “Face the Promise” is a cool tune that has a great riff running through it that reminds of something John Fogerty would’ve come up with.I have to give much credit to bassist Glenn Worf who delivers some awesome work throughout the entire album especially the title track. There is a cover version of Vince Gill’s “Real Mean Bottle” in which Seger & Kid Rock not only sing together but they both play slide guitar on the country fried tune which also has some great guitar work by J.T. Corenflos & Kenny Greenberg.Greenberg really plays his ass off on “Between”which in my opinion is the best tune off the album.”The Answer’s In the Question”features Seger performing a duet with country star Patty Loveless & is well written both musically & lyrically & should definitely be on the country charts.

Overall,Seger put out a fine album & although a bit mellow at times it does rock out. I definitely prefer it to his last couple studio releases & I’m glad to see Seger prove to everyone that he hasn’t lost his magic which on’Face the Promise’ shows he’s still standing”Like a Rock”.On a scale of 1-5 I would give it 3.5 Smokin' OP's
