Concert Reviews
The show opened up with a portion of the classic, "Department Of Youth". Alice came out in a black and silver suit twirling his cane, and delivered an awesome vocal performance. Following this was "No More Mr Nice Guy," then "Dirty Diamonds," the title track of Alice's new album. During this song Alice tosses fake diamond necklaces into the excited audience. Next up was "Billion Dollar Babies," and Alice teased the audience by shaking a sword with prop money on it. After this were the classics "Be My Lover" and "Lost In America". Now the first ballad of the show, "I Never Cry" was done as audience members lit their lighters. Next we get to hear another new track as Alice did the hard rockin' "Woman Of Mass Distraction". The way the crowd responded to this song made me feel like it was already a classic. The next song everyone sang along with, "I'm Eighteen". Next up was a track from Alice's previous album called "Between High School and the Old School". It's good to see that Alice is content playing songs that never became hits, because everyone loved this song, then it was time for the last new song, "Sunset Babies". "Is It My Body" followed and then they played "Go To Hell". This part of the show is when the theatrics started to enter. During "Go To Hell" Calico Cooper (Alice's daughter), enters dressed up as a lady vampire. During a guitar solo, Alice disappears beneath her black cape, leaving the audience wondering where he went. During Alice's absence, the rest of the band does a spectacular instrumental of "The Black Widow". The jam ends as drummer Eric Singer begins a mindblowing solo, complete with an awesome light show. Alice returns to perform "Gimme" followed by a crowd favorite, "Feed My Frankenstein", which, during the guitar solo, Alice collects body parts and places them in an upright coffin. When he finishes, all that the body's missing is a head (foreshadowing). The room becomes dark and when light returns, Alice is in the classic top hat and suit to perform "Welcome To My Nightmare". This is followed by an amazing medley of "The Awakening", "Steven" and "Only Women Bleed". Next is "Ballad Of Dwight Fry", which is done with Alice in a straight jacket. This particular performance started way back in 1971, and is done just as well today. Following this is a portion of "Killer," which leads into Alice being beheaded by the guillotine. The band plays "I Love The Dead" as Calico and the executioner fight over Alice's severed head. Finally Calico places it in the upright coffin with the other body parts. A quick puff of smoke appears in front of the coffin , then Alice comes out to perform his most popular song, "School's Out". The crowd sings along and soon confetti-filled balloons are tossed into the audience. Alice brings out a sword and pops each balloon, which showers confetti over the thrilled crowd. The lights faded, but when they came back up moments later, it was time for the encore. Alice first did his 80's classic "Poison" and the crowd sang along. After was the long awaited Paris Hilton skit. Alice performed the deep cut "Wish I Was Born In Beverly Hills" as Paris Hilton (played by Calico) walks by being pursued by paparazzi. When Alice gets to the line "She bit like a dog and she screamed like hell", Paris' little dog tinkerbell bit her in the jugular! After the song is done, and the audience is done laughing, Alice begins the garage rock classic, "Under My Wheels". Midway through the song, Alice introduces the other band members to the crowd, then finishes the song. Finally, Alice wishes everyone a happy Halloween, and the show is over.
If you want to see an all-around awesome rock concert, go see Alice Cooper. He can still sing as good as ever, and the band is just fantastic. Not only do you get song after song of quality rock n roll, but you get a superb theatrical performance. People who think Alice is a thing of the past haven't seen one of his shows recently, because he can rock as good as any new band! Alice is still the reigning king of shock rock, and it is quite unlikely that anyone will take his place.
