Silvertide
10/18/2005
Temple Club, Lansing MI
Review by by Amanda Blue
The Temple Club is in an historic old three story brick church in an older part of the capital city. It was a warm fall night & as we made our way to the club we came upon the Silvertide tour bus parked directly in front of the venue. We lingered before going in to see if the band was around. Soon the lead singer, Walt Lafty, came off the bus. He was very gracious, signing autographs and shaking hands with fans as they came by on their way into the club. He talked with us about their endless tour (they have been on the road around two years). Walt told us that the band was busy writing dozens of new songs on the road. They will soon be taking off a little time for the holidays to spend time with their families but the band also hopes to record demos of some new material. When they go back on the road they want to continue to work on these songs and get the crowds reaction to them as they add a few to the set.

After two opening bands the crowd was warmed up and Silvertide did not disappoint them. Silvertide is a group of young men in their early 20s but when they hit the stage you can clearly see talented & seasoned musicians who are staking their claim to the classic rock pantheon. The band led off with SFC, followed by Mary Jayne. Walt made his way into the crowd by both crowd surfing and walking through the audience. The stage was small and most of the crowd was in the intimate setting of the former sanctuary with standing room only in front of the stage and tall tables in the back. The sanctuary is surrounded on two sides by a large balcony and this is where we were able to get a great view of the entire band and their command of the audience. Walt wove his way through the crowd and sang to the crowd from atop barstools and while dancing on a table. Later in the show he climbed up to the balcony and sang to the crowd there and below. No one could avoid being drawn in to this hard rockin’ bands dynamic set & no one wanted to. Their album, Show & Tell is full of instant classics and they performed California Rain, Blue Jeans, You Want It All, Heartstrong, Nothing Stays, Foxhole J.C., their new single Devils Daughter plus a couple of new songs & after a blazing guitar solo by Nick Perri the crowd was ready to sing along to Ain’t Comin Home. If you enjoy their CD you should should see them live...now when you can be a part of the show before the limos and arenas that are on their horizon take them to the next level. Silvertide is keeping classic hard rock alive and well in America for newer and older generations to appreciate side by side.

After the show, just as Walt had promised us when we chatted before the show, the entire band came out to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
