REVIEW BY WOLVERINE
While waiting in line, I had planned to ask several of the faithful Atomic Punks fans what they thought of the band. I didn't have to ask. The buzz in the waiting line went from "these guys are awesome" to "this is the best money you'll ever spend on a concert!"
This band is definitely aimed at the Van Halen aficionado, digging deep for songs from Diver Down and Van Halen II. However, even a casual fan enjoys hearing not only the hits, but album cuts as well.
"Dave" is truly energetic, prompting the crowd, perfectly mimicking not only the singing voice, but the actions and attitude of the lead singer. The only noticeable difference between "Dave" and Dave is that the true originaL.. ..is more of an asshole! "Eddie" is amazing. Solos on "Panama" and "Eruption" are awesome. His fingers attacking the neck ofthe guitar look like a tarantula on crack! "Michael" plays his role admirably and keeps the band together on many songs. "Alex" has great solos, especially on "Everybody Wants Some".
The Friday concert, though played to a smaller crowd, was great. Saturday night's show was to a full room that rocked from the moment "Hot For Teacher" started to show to "You Really Got Me" that closed it. In between at both shows, the band rocks solidly, especially on "Running With the Devil", "Ain't Talkin' About Love", and "Feel Your Love Tonight". During "Ice Cream Man", individual crowd members are encouraged to showcase their talents by finishing off the final lines of the song.
From their entrance onto the stage to "goodbyes" after the final song, this band BECOMES Van Halen. They've got the Van Halen look, the Van Halen music, and the Van Halen attitude. To the concertgoer, it's not enough that they convince the audience-I believe they convince themselves!
BY THE FANS, FOR THE FANS....
