Dokken -New Jersey, Starland Ballroom
July 9th, 2004
Well here is my review of the Dokken show on July 9th at the Starland Ballroom here in NJ. I arrived at about 10:30. We got there and LA guns were just about to come on. I really never listened to them but I know some of their songs. They played good. They were really loud and the crowd seemed to be into them. I was excited for Dokken to come on. Dokken finally came on around 12:05. I noticed many of the people started to leave because it was late and if you are not a die-hard fan of Dokken it was late and many people were Drunk or High. Dokken came out with Unchain the Night but it was just a tease. They went into playing Kiss is Death it sounded ok but Don needed to warm up a bit. Next they went into the Hunter, which I thought sounded pretty good. Then they played Into the Fire, which I was disappointed with. I thought Don's voice was lacking something. Jon Levin and Barry Sparks did an awesome job on this song though. Jon is an awesome addition to Dokken. He played in Warlock. The band played Escape from the new album and Don forgot the words to the song. Seemed a little embarrassed to say the least. Next was Just got lucky and the crowd seemed to really come alive. They played that song Great and I thought they played it perfectly. I will not go into every song but thought Dons voice was off a bit and I was disappointed in some of the songs. Jon and Barry were awesome and really add a lot to the band. Jon does sound like Lynch. He is a great addition to the band and seems like a nice guy. It was still a great show and I was happy to see them again and looking forward to their album.
Here is the set list
Kiss of death
the hunter
into the fire
escape
lust got lucky
breaking the chains
alone again
too high to fly
it's not love
when heaven comes down
tooth and nail
in my dreams
